We All Had No Food To Eat, That's Why We Eat Dairy On Shavuos - Masbia of Boro Park

Posted by A N · July 27, 2018 12:51 PM · 2 reactions

Cheesecake from Strauss BakeryOn the holiday of Shavuos, we celebrate the day where all Jews stood at Mount Sinai 1312 BCE when all kosher laws came into effect and they found themselves without food. All of the food had become non-kosher and they needed to start their pantry from scratch. The first easy go-to food was milk and dairy so that's why we celebrate Shavuos with eating a dairy meal.

At Masbia, we serve people who find themselves without food every day. For this upcoming holiday, we are preparing extra large emergency food packages for families to be able to celebrate the holiday with food. Masbia of Boro Park will be open for holiday meals as well.

We need more fish, more meat, more challah, eggs, potatoes, and pasta to fill those packages and cook for the Shabbos and Yom Tov meals. This year, Shavuos lasts for 3 days. It starts with Shabbos followed by the holiday. This amounts to a total of 8 special meals that we hope to serve for Shavuos.

For $54, you can sponsor a package for a family of four. Masbia of Boro Park needs food packages for 400 families this holiday, which is a total of $21,600. For $45, you can sponsor a holiday meal for one person, $360 sponsors all 8 meals for one person, $1,800 for all the people (40 people) for an entire meal, or the entire Shavuos for $14,400 for all 8 meals. The entire Shavuos at Masbia of Boro Park both raw food packages and the in-house meals during the holiday at $36,000. Click here to donate holiday meals.

For anyone who donates $1,000 or more, we will post your dedication on the wall of our dining room for Shavuos. Remember to email us the dedication information at [email protected]
